Handmade Valentines

Valentine's Day last year was kind of hectic.  The weekend before, we spent 3 days in ICU with Caridad.  She developed pneumonia so terrible.  It was a scary week or so, including the days that led up to her hospital stay. I had no idea that the symptoms she'd been feeling for almost a week before, were leading up to what she went through.  She fought for every stinking breath for those 3 days she was in the hospital.  Needless to say, she did not get to participate in her class party.  And I didn't get around to finishing this post.  But, when she returned to school she did have a bag full of "love notes" from her classmates waiting for her.  And she did get to pass out her creations as well.

Below was our process for Valentine's last year.

I wanted to do something different for Valentine's Day celebrations at school.  I can remember being a little girl and I loved making boxes to collect all those "love notes" from my classmates.

With my son participating in his first ever Valentine's Day Party and with my daughter's suggestions and preferences, these were the "love notes" that they passed out.

My Materials:
1}  Felt
2}  Yarn
3}  Pen, Scissors and cross stitch needle.
4}  From Scrapbooking Supplies Acid-Free Paper I used a couple of the Printed Sheets from the Valentine Collection.

Sissy chose 2 patterns for the boys and 2 for the girls.

I made a heart pattern out of regular paper and traced the hearts onto the back side of the sheets of felt.  The 2 sheets of black felt we handled differently.  Mommy just cut heart shapes without the outline to work with.

Then we cut all the hearts out.

Then Mommy and Sis sewed 2 hearts together so that the hearts were colorful and the patterns covered both sides.

And we attached a little piece of Valentine's Day paper to write who the "love note" was from.

There were really fun to make.  And Sis enjoyed helping...Mommy enjoyed the help!

Do you do something crafty for Valentine's Day treats for your children to pass out to their friends?  I'd love to hear your ideas in the comments section.

May 2012 ~Scrapbooking~

Kindergarten Graduation Day, May 20th 2011.
I absolutely love this picture of Sissy.
My Materials:
From SEI's Sunny Day Collection

1} Umbrella Glitter Paper (front)
2}  trellis Pink Foil Paper (front and back)
3} Puddle Foil Paper (back)
4} Rain Puddle Solid Cardstock (front)
5}  Golden Sky Solid Cardstock (back)
6} Garden Variety Perforated Paper (for journal spot, month title and flower)
7}  From Zig
Photo Signature Purple Pen
The blue color of her cap and gown really brought out her eyes.  I have another picture from this day that someday I will scrap to show you.  But until then, my May calendar page will have to do.

I need to work on the photo matting idea.  A year later I am looking at these and thinking there are so many things I could have done differently.

April 2012 ~Scrapbooking~

Welcome to April everyone!

When I think of April I think of cute baby ducklings and chicks and beautiful pastel colors.

I have a lot of crafty thoughts running through my mind but let's see what I can get accomplished, OK?

To welcome this beautiful month today, I'm posting my April 2012 layout from my parent's Christmas present last season.

My Materials:
From SEI's Sunny Day Collection

1}  Umbrella Glitter Paper (front and back)
2} White paper (I apologize I cannot find the name of the actual paper anywhere)
3} Rain Puddle Solid Cardstock
4} Golden Sky Solid Cardstock
5}  Jigsaw Kraft Edgers.
6} The Paper Studio Dual Tip Glue Pen (definately not for scrapbooking)

I added quite a bit of detail to this page using my black pen.  You notice the "stitching" around the circles?

I used my black pen to add dots to emphasize the jigsaw boarder I used in certain spots also.

I tried to use some scrap strips that I had accumulated to make the calendar rows and columns.  I also tied in the white from the picture layout above, by numbering the days using coordinating paper.

I feel like I'm becomeing a bit more familiar with the process at this point.  I'm still new to the game so most of the decorative elements are hand cut and decorated.

Isn't that baby boy so adorable??  I look at this over year later and wish time would slow down.  He's getting so big!

My First Etsy Purchase

I've been so fascinated by all of the bloggers out there that create such beautiful things, and then sell them to people like me.

I fell in love with ~Brittany Davis'~creations when I saw one of her headbands pop into a post over at ~Michaela Noelle Designs~.

I've followed ~Love Stitched~ ever since and have been longing to own one of her pieces.

I finally bought one.

From the time I placed my order, I could barely contain my excited anticipation to receive my package.  So you can imagine my excitement when I opened the piece of mail to find this...

Brittany included her business card, a pencil and a handwritten note attached to this lovely hair pin...

And to top it all off, the headband I purchased was wrapped delicately in this beauty...

Brittany, thank you so much for adding the personal touch of the handwritten note and all the beautiful goodies that were included with my purchase!  You have no idea how special you made this Mommy feel.

Can you tell how excited I am to wear this beauty.

It's gorgeous, I love it and the pin too.  Maybe I'll post a pic with that one of these days.

January 2012 ~ Scrapbooking ~

In 2011 I made the decision to become a ~SEI Club Member~.  I knew that I wanted to make my Christmas Gifts to my family a little more meaningful.  Handmade maybe...

I also love taking pictures.  {Some day I will have a nice fancy camera that I know how to use and my photographs will look better than ever.}  I have also really enjoyed the experience of documenting the Babies firsts in their baby books.  So I decided it was time to start scrapbooking.

Oh my goodness, I had no idea what I was getting myself into.   But my MEGA club shipments come in every other month and thus, my grand stash of materials for scrapbooking continues to grow and grow.

I decided that I was going to make a 2012 calendar for my parents for Christmas.  In order not to spoil anything, I've waited until after the holiday to share my creations with you.

And here is January 2012.

I also posted some sneak peaks to this layout ~Here~ and ~Here~

My Materials:
From SEI's Sunny Day Collection
1}  Tulip Field solid cardstock
2}  Umbrella glitter paper
From COLORBOK's Pink/Blue pack
3}  Mixed dots
From Ranger Stickles
4}  Yellow
5}  Some foam letters we bought at the $ Tree...Sorry I don't have the original packaging to know the manufacturer.

So what do you think?  Do you do scrapbooking?  I'd especially love to read comments from experienced scrapers.

Co-Worker Gift

I cannot exactly remember where I found this idea but I'm 99.9% sure it was one of  DGouldthorp's weekly posts over at NutriMirror.

I've had the piece of paper in my daytimer since last year with the intention that I was going to do this and hand out to my co-workers for a Christmas Gift.

So I finally made them and placed them on everyone's desk at work.

Merry Christmas Co-Workers, here is your Emergency Kit.  Lord knows we need this stuff from time to time.

Love, Mommy Sauri~
